EPTA Italy was founded in 1990 by Marcella Crudeli, one of the most distinguished Italian concert performers and piano teacher. She become president of the EPTA Europe organization in 1995-1996, in 2003-2004 and in 2022-2023.
This EPTA Italy was born a bit by chance. In fact, in the spring of 1988 the Koncertum DIrecticia of Zagreb offered me a recital and a short seminar in Rovinj, in Istria, on the occasion of the inaugural Congress of EPTA Yugoslavia. I accepted and in October of that year I had the opportunity to meet Prof. Carola Grindea President and founder of EPTA Europe, who immediately showed me a strong sympathy.
In an interview I had with her, she complained that in Italy no one had taken the initiative to found a national section of the EPTA, as had already happened in many other European and non-European countries. She explained the aims of the organization to me and asked me if I was possibly willing to take care of it, and I was surprised, but flattered by the trust that Grindea showed me, I didn’t dare disappoint her.
A few days later the official assignment arrived from London, and it is thus that, with the willing collaboration of other colleagues, EPTA Italy was established in Rome on December 2nd, 1989 and the official announcement was made on March 2nd during the awards ceremony and concert of the winners of the International Piano Competition “Roma 1990”, organized by the Cultural Association “Fryderyk Chopin” in collaboration with the Ente dello Spettacolo.
